Bos has two daughters, with a third due in January. At the grocery store, five items cost as much as a full cart once did. And on Wednesday, Bos and nearly 1,400 other people were laid off from their jobs at what had been the Navistar truck factory in southwestern Ohio.

Asked how many times he had voted for Trump, Bos held up three tattooed fingers. But he said he’s done with the president.

“This year’s election is a test for the working-class coalition that lifted Trump into the White House and gave majorities to Republicans in the House and Senate” - the under-educated coalition? This is the only reason working class would vote Republican. Oh, hold on, bigotry too.

      Misinformation too.

Remember, none of us, even those of us on Lemmy, have ingested the same news and headlines.

Sure, there are shared overlaps in forums like these or among those who, maybe, only listen to Tucker Carlson and branch out from there for their worldly info.

Never assume other people know what you know. Let go of the belief that all the egregious shit you’ve read on Trump has been read by everyone, because it hasn’t.

There is no central news. No shared headlines.

Just TikTok, social media & its algorithms, and whatever podcasts/YouTube/NewsChannel we sporadically choose to consume on a level that most often resembles TikTok consumption.

Jordan Klepper has skits from the 2016 run through the attack on the capital where he would mingle with MAGAs when they gathered, because he looked like them. (Not much on the violent coup attempt, his fear in that crowd was evident, he grabbed footage at the edge then noped out).

He did get past the evade replies regarding bad things Trump was doing, occasionally, to the true reply which was exactly as you said: I don’t care.

We laugh at the evade replies because they’re so ridiculous, but the “I don’t care” is the real answer.

Exactly. We are so far beyond “do they know.” Imo these people should be culpable too to some degree. And I do have loved ones in the cult, which I’m sure we all do because it’s so massive.

We’re never going to get through this kind of shit if we keep giving fascists the benefit of the doubt. They will not give it to you and they applaud violence on innocent people, hate, inequality, etc.

There is no doubt on their side, why are we not listening to who these people are saying they are? They literally gloat about it. That’s what those hats became, very quickly. It’s a brag that they can be openly hateful now. Fuck that.

Never assume other people know what you know.

agreed but that’s by choice. I read kiwi farms etc for that exact reason and occasionally they make a good point, but most of it is obviously bat shit insanity, or just plain bigotry

Let go of the belief that all the egregious shit you’ve read on Trump has been read by everyone, because it hasn’t.

of course, how can we know everything ?, so we’re all selective but there’s even many in here that refuse to engage in politics because icky. Many folks say they filter any mention of him out of their feed, so they’ll be as uninformed as Bo and Luke Duke in this interview and yet I bet they won’t be uninformed and also vote for Trump.

There adults, if they drink, get drunk and then drive we blame them… but for some reason they make shitty political choices, not once (I could kind of understand that stupidity, it’s what got Regan elected) here but thrice and yet they still have people defending them.

I always think LBJ is the best anti-hero we’ve seen. He’s crass and rambunctious but willing to sacrifice his own career to uplift a cause for the greater good. While most politicians are afraid to alienate a huge portion of voters, he’s willing to alienate the Southern voters to legislate the Civil Rights Act because who cares about racists.

I recommend reading Caro’s biography series on LBJ. I think you would find this statement to be not accurate. He was willing to alienate (white) Southern voters because his one overarching goal in life was to be (and to stay) President and (white) Southern voters were never numerous enough to ensure that. To his credit, LBJ seemed to be very much not racist personally, but fixing racism was never a goal of his.

You used the whole thing in past tense, as if the event already happened, not future tense.

What you wanted to say was “Trump did what the Democrats never could; make it very likely for a Texas Democrat to be elected to the Senate.”

By saying “put” you implied the event already came to pass.

English is a dumb language though so understandable for your mistake to be made.

Edit: correction; I missed the first “could” and only saw the second “could”. My mistake - the sentence is grammatically correct. Though this is a fine example of why English is a dumb language. Still not as bad as Finnish I’d say (sorry Finns the country and everything is great to me but we gotta fix the language, too many exceptions like English except unlike English you just get misunderstood since so few letters of the alphabet are typically used to make words. Old Finnish had more order than Modern Finnish).

The “could” earlier in the sentence applies to the phrase beginning with “put”. The grammar is fine, though the sentence is a little long.

I see a lot of hatred towards these people, it makes sense given what community we are in.

Personally, I don’t want them to suffer, but I do find humor in it, just as my coping mechanism.

I would be salty and get them to admit they were wrong, taking satisfaction in a big I told you so is much better than wanting more suffering even if they deserve it.

None of the 70.98% of the Springfield electorate deserve to have shit. They better pull themselves up by their bootstraps and pray trump doesn’t get rid of all the remaining social programs he said he would get rid of. Racist liars, going along with the lie that Hatians were eating dogs and cats.

All the other red counties should take note because this will be you soon. I certainly won’t help you but I’m sure the centrists and independent people who want to hold hands and sing will be glad to show you unconditional kindness and help you out.

Showing kindness to those who don’t share their kindness with others will have you overworking for people who don’t care. They are, in a word, toxic. Toxic people don’t deserve the effort and grace given to them - they are to be met with the animosity they revel in showing others.

The way to improve the lives of the hateful is to have them live the life they demand of others. It is speaking their language. If they don’t want to be treated as such they can change too. If or when they change I will be there to comfort and console them, to help them heal from their hate, but I am under no delusion that they will change from others being too nice to them. COVID shook that naivety from me.

showing empathy to people who don’t share your empathy is toxic. it’s toxic empathy is what it is.

…some people make horseshoe theory look real attractive. but really it’s just wilhoit’s law in action. the only seemingly workable politics left is conservativism.

So we went from “enjoying the suffering of others” to “kindness is conditional”…

No one’s asking you to? The problem is assuming that all 1400 people laid off are Trump supporters and wishing them ill by association. “All farmers deserve suffering because 80% off farmers are Trump supporters!”

70.98 % of voters in Springfield voted for the bastard. They can deal with the consequences they themselves wanted for others or they can fuck off, but I don’t care.

I just wish we had a man on the street in Springfield doing a YouTube daily video so other Ohio red counties could see what happens when you vote for cruelty.

Nobody in this thread says “all farmers” or implied all 1400 people deserve it. You’re being disengenous and arguing in bad faith.

You can tell they were all Trump voters because they committed the sin of living in Ohio, a state where 43% of people voted Harris!

You can tell they are Trump voters cause the idiot said he voted for Trump three times? These people are just fucking idiots they don’t get any sympathy from me.

My aunt is posting on Facebook to Mike Johnson to reconsider the social security cuts. Get your lazy ass to work and stop asking for handouts.

Right? MAGA people just dont want to work.

They want to become professional victims and cry about why their kids wont talk to them anymore and they’re really a bunch of bitter miserable people that are mad the world got better but they didn’t.

They’re lazy and expect free stuff and think that because they’re old, everyone should bow to them.

Nah, we dont need them. Who wants to hear what a mean old cunts opinions are? I dont.
