The pretty common one is to have infrared LEDs shining on the plate. Humans can’t see the light but cameras can and it blinds them. It’s worth noting that it’s illegal, and if the police catch you doing it they’ll arrest you just for that. I’m not sure how much help that is, but then again, any technique that blocks the cameras from reading your plate is likely considered illegal.

Yeah but PJs are sexy. If she is comfortable wearing pyjamas around me that’s great in my opinion. I’m unclear about how exactly this is supposed to be something I would be turned off by, and why that is therefore “a filter”.
I think I might have grants to Sue you for the mental damage that was caused by having to read that incoherent nonsense you just wrote. Are you drunk or something because that scent is made absolutely zero since.
Yep I’ll get right on that. Sex change operation might have to wait until Monday though.
I swear some women are as clueless about men as men are about women. I’m sure huge amount of this is because schools insist that sexed is gender separated.
Why is wearing glasses and pyjamas supposed to be a turn-off?
You know when women go on about how they have to have a different dress for every party, it is literally only women the care. Men aren’t going to even notice if you’re wearing the same thing two dates in a row. The catty comments come from other women. As a man I don’t have nice clothes, I just have clothes. If we’re going on a date I’m just going to be wearing clothes, I don’t have special items that I only wear on a date so I am really not going to mind if you don’t either.
Yeah I was going to say, there is a proprietary piece of software they use at work that uses like seven gigs of RAM for no reason.
The trouble is oil prices are going up as well which means that everything else is more expensive. So unless your hobby is sitting alone in a dark room with all the power switched off, you’re losing out as well.
It’s a little better than usual pricing simply because it isn’t as popular, it’s not as if you have a choice in the type of RAM that you buy for your system, but there’s not much in it. I guess if you are im the market for a lot of RAM it would be a noticeable price difference l, but if you just in the market of a couple of sticks to add to your personal rig you’re not going to notice the price difference that much, it certainly less than the fluctuations you get between retailers.
When they say it’s predicted to last another three years what they mean is they hope it lasts another three years because that means they’re Investments will be worth more when the bubble finally does burst.
They can’t predict the market any more than anyone else can so this doesn’t really mean anything. We wait as well be asking tarot card readers if RAM prices are going to decrease anytime soon.
I wasn’t aware that anything was taught in US schools.

8·4 days agoAbout they track the time between key inputs when you’re searching for something. God knows why though I can’t imagine it being particularly useful information.
It’s not really cold though is it. It’s just a lot of numbers and those numbers somehow do things. Like it says no one understands it.

2·4 days agoOh maybe, I’m not particularly interested in things like that but my dad is pretty into Swiss army knives so maybe he used my Amazon account at one point?
I mean it’s fine I don’t care I just think it’s odd.
Also it’s a pretty transparent desperate attempt at some attention, and the internet’s natural response whenever anybody does something like that, is to deny it.

8·5 days agoNot only did they have my age range completely inaccurate they’ve also listed camping as a hobby. I don’t even own a tent, I have no idea why they think I like camping. I’ve never bought any camping equipment from them, I’ve never accessed the website from communal wi-fi in a campsite. I don’t know where they’re getting this assumption from.

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
1·5 days agoThe only self checkout machines I’ve ever seen that actually seem to save time are the ones in IKEA. That’s only because people are buying such bulky heavy items that they don’t bother weighing them. It’s the scales that cause all the problems, they are sensitive enough that they can detect if you put so much as a single piece of paper on them but are I’ll let down by the fact no one weighs the original product.
Oh there’s an unexpected item in the bagging area is their, could it possibly be that loaf of bread I just scanned? No apparently not because this product is overweight by a whole nanogram.

3·5 days agoI’m pretty sure I stolen bottle of wine because of the self checkout.
I’m bought a bunch of stuff and some wine, I scan to the bottle and it beeped and I put it in the bag but then no one came to ID me when it came time to paying, presumably it somehow didn’t register.
If you need an AI to tell you that you don’t deserve either. You got to get in your car and drive around it two o’clock in the morning or it isn’t worth it.

Surely if I offload work tasks onto someone else then I would achieve the same effect? I don’t think this is AI exclusive.
