4·3 days agoThat last bit sounds like the lake of fire in the Bible: a threat of posthumous torture rather than instructions for the living.

35·7 days agoHere’s an episode of the excellent “99 percent Invisible” design podcast that interviews a philosopher who ho has written about this topic! https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/673-the-score/
These are incredible!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A long time ago webcomics used to be one of my favorite things online, now online comics (not comic books) on average are one of my most regular causes for cringing.English
2·12 days agoDo webcomics need to have gags? I’m very much enjoying Runaway to The Stars, a Sci-Fi story with a non-humanoid protagonist and a TON of world building. There are parallels to Worf, who is both the Son of Mogh, and alsothe son of Nikolai and Helena Rozhenko.

2·14 days agoI have that worry too, but luckily the worst case for me would be one of my simple tools becoming unmaintainable.

4·15 days agoIt basically added three small functions and their command line args to a sub-500 line Python script. I’m sure if helped that my function and variable name are verbose, like dictionary_of_fruits_with_dictionary_of_attributes.
My work provided the tool and asked me to try it.

251·15 days agoI’m not a developer but I do make little tools for myself at work. I used an LLM to assist with adding some features recently, nothing I couldn’t easily do myself. It did a fine job and made minimal changes, all totally readable and for the most part the same way I would have done it.
I have a new tool I want to make, and it’s hard not to just turn to the LLM, since it’ll save me many hours on a script that nobody else will ever see. It’s really taken the fun out of it. I’m proud of what I made, even though nobody else will care, but doing this my usual way will feel like I’m using the wrong tool out of perversity.
I dunno. I hate everything.

121·21 days agoI’ve read that the sentiment in Japan is much less critical of generative AI. No idea is that’s true, but could explain it.

1·21 days agoI also use this from f-droid. Works great. I can pin it to my quick settings shade for easy access. (That pull down at the top of the screen that has your WiFi toggle and airplane mode and stuff)
What is OOP even asking? That looks like a perfectly acceptable meal. Other than the hamster meat.

So it is. I grabbed the first result, sorry.
