Libre Office kept freezing for ten or fifteen seconds every minute or so, no matter what I was doing or not doing with it at the time. Someone in the Linux community told me it could happen and gave me a fix I couldn’t begin to understand before adding that OnlyOffice should give a smoother experience. It does. That’s all i know.

Adding matches is a bit clunky–but it’ll soon know all the ones i need. Otherwise, it’s perfect, thanks a lot!
Also, I installed using the console (the terminal?): I’m excessively proud of myself.
At lunch, can’t test it rn, but it looks perfect.
And (more importantly?), it feels so good to be able to ask and receive help. There might be something about this open source software fad after all. Joke aside, thank you, I can’t wait to dive deeper and learn.

20·7 days agoMy kid’s teachers: “I can’t help you build barricades in front of the school. I’m legally bound to teach my scheduled classes. It would be such a pity if your barricades were already built tomorrow before 7am, and I physically couldn’t get inside. Or would 7.30 be better for y’all?”

512·7 days agoThe country didn’t want that. The president and his cronies do, as an excuse to amplify mass surveillance.
The same president we’re protesting against.

1101·7 days agoI live in very, very rural France. Country-wide protests are happening because high-school students demand better… Well, better everything.
Yesterday I carpooled with my kid’s teacher to protest in the “biggest” town (pop. 9,000) in the county. 700 people marched. Some drove over 60 miles one way to be there, when gas costs 2,35€ a liter.
In the past week two kids lost an eye, one an arm, one their lower jaw, because of police violence. (The eyes might not be beyond saving, I’m not sure.) Even middle-schoolers fight with their parents to be allowed to protest.Country-wide headcount was 400,000. Our tiny march, every tiny local march did its part.
And that was a weekday, small protest. Saturday after next is a big one.
I’m really proud of the kids.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How long is an average high school day in your culture/country?
1·1 month agoRural France : 8 to 6, and half-days on Wednesdays.
Or rather, 7.55 (first bell) to 6.
Same for the middle school. My 7th grader’s week goes:
Monday 8-6 (with a free half-period before lunch, and the regular 2-hour lunch break), Tu 8-6
W 9-12 Th 8-5 F 10-5.
(But she’s an overachiever and signed up for several electives. She could shave off 5 hours from her school week.)

Try me.
