Congress passed a symbolic resolution on Tuesday to condemn socialism — a move that saw eight Democrats cross the aisle to back the GOP on the measure.

The vote, which has no actual effect on public policy, was swiftly mocked by observers on social media.

“Voting to condemn an economic system that doesn’t exist in our country, to protect the one which we live under that exploits the working class to benefit the obscenely wealthy,” wrote Melanie D’Arrigo, executive director of Campaign for New York Health. “This was Congress’ priority as 60% of Americans struggle to afford food, housing and healthcare. Embarrassing.”

Oh? Well that’s good then. The DSA is the only active political group we have that’s giving at the bare minimum lip service to taking care of the population instead of enriching billionaires. If that’s a threat to a party, then that party sucks and shouldn’t be in charge of anything.

I’m glad you’re happy with losing elections to MAGA in exchange for some lip service then.

Wild that you’ll just say it out loud, but here we are.

OH! Well my mistake, I didn’t realize advocating for the population and winning elections is what’s going to keep MAGA in power. Let’s just give all our money to Musk and Bezos and they’ll surely take up the mantle you want the government to not. Brilliant!

I’ll take that as a concession then. They aren’t winning any elections outside of primaries in deeply blue districts.

Which informs my answer to your question. They weaken the brand by opening it up to easy attacks (things like Romer’s utter inability to defend the platform in interviews, to the Hasan Piker fallout).

As a result, they are hurting the Dems chances in a very important midterm general.

Which you apparently think is good because they do lip service you like.

How so? I literally answered their question after they refused to answer mine…

Wouldn’t the person refusing to answer a simple question be the one clearly talking out of their ass?

Yeah, fair. And we’ll see how campaigning with a tankie plays out for AES. I’m sure moderates in a state like that love that kind of rhetoric.

You got it backwards. The Dems are losing because they support the status quo, not progressive policies like the growing number of millennial and Z voters want. They’re the ones falling further behind because of this free-market fascist kleptocracy crap. You have Dems engaging in insider trading, supporting Israel, obeying corporate masters, breaking ranks and siding with the GOP/oligarchs… establishment Dems progressively look more and more like the GOP as time passes.

Where are they losing for those reasons? What evidence do we have that DSA-backed candidates will flip those seats in the general?

Mmm, a nice healthy serving of both-parties-are-the-same slopulism, with no examples given or reasons why the DSA would fix these issues.

They actually have a coherent platform. Go look at it. The DSA-backed guys like Mamdani are doing good stuff.

Meanwhile, the dems platform mainly consists of orange man bad, while ignoring polling that shows most Americans want universal health coverage , not the half-assed public/private ACA nonsense that fails to keep healthcare prices in check, while continuing to allow the insurance industry to profit off something that is a basic human right.

You have centrist democrats in battleground and red states resisting climate change timelines when nearly two-thirds of Americans want climate change addressed.

Meanwhile, you have the DSA proposing really good stuff, like eliminating the senate to get rid of disproportionate representation of red states with small populations, who have also gerrymandered the heck out of the electoral map to gain further advantage and shut out the power of a majority vote.

If you don’t want progressives to run a coup within the Dem ranks, then actually use a good platform 🤷‍♂️ They’re the ones trying to get rid of the corprocrats.
