help, when I do this I encounter sociopaths who view this “being nice” as weakness and an invitation to manipulate me; is there a trick to this?

765·9 days agoI seriously and unironically believe whatever web developer has the gall, the temerity to imply that a news article in plain fucking text is an “Experience™”, and then fuck up loading that plain text, something webpages have been able to do flawlessly since the invention of the web, should be taken out back and shot.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•people keep saying that we need to lower our standards of living to live sustainably, while at the same time refusing to give up facebook and instagram
531·11 days agogiving up facebook and instagram is, contrary to your assertion, actually a higher standard of living than being on them.
Think of all the brain cells you don’t kill! The arguments you don’t have! The data you don’t give the Zuck for free! It’s its own reward, really.

two can play at this game, and I am experienced: you are now manually breathing. You are aware of where your tongue sits in your mouth, brushing against your teeth. You now notice you can always see your nose. You’re also aware of the way your clothes feel against your skin, including your shirt tag.

sure, there’s lots of fish in the sea – but the sea is also fucking massive, and full of hungry sharks that look like other fish. At a certain point, going in the water is not, can not be worth it.

ah, so the solution is just “don’t have autism”, got it.
well, I have little faith in the current administration being the one responsible for a new breakthrough in the curing of autism (unless that breakthrough is gas chambers), and academia is moving away overseas anyhow now, so I guess that’s not happening.
