This is the kind of whimsy we need on here!
Wym? There’s 110 of them in an average life.
Make the best of it before you turn 36 cause that’s when you become a square.
We’ll see if the AI bubble makes room for an actual Second New Deal
Those and an independent manufacturing / logistics capability far in excess of what the was torn economies were dwindled down to, a recent mass nationalization of infrastructure, social reform creating a dedicated and healthy populace while supporting research funding, massive independent agricultural base, independent energy supply, a military with experience in environments analogous to all fronts…
Basically everything that no longer exists in the US.
Oh and the wealthy paid taxes commensurate with the general pop…

I assume a limit to nerve ending concentration so it’s possible the fibers of cotton feel similar. Also since mass is lower the point-pressure should be lower meaning sharp objects aren’t as dangerous to traverse.

2·22 days agoYou can’t compensate for wantan abuse.
The alternative means for producing sufficient energy for a better standard of living than most of us are privileged enough to experience has been around for several decades now(much longer with caveats).
These decisions to not only continue to use fossil fuels but to accelerate the pace of ecological destruction in the name of “compute”, all the while failing to benefit or protect the rights of laborers, are purely political and always has been.
political reform will be crucial or we’re fucked either way.
Politics is the choice between a solarpunk or a cyberpunk present. It could be better today if we simply choose.

10·23 days agoBut even fairly modest productivity gains multiplied across millions of workers can have enormous consequences.
Good yes finally! We need to burn the planet for modest productivity gains.
The pilots job is specifically to prevent to finding out phase.

1·1 month agoFair, if you do account for the change in water volume over time then you could maintain accuracy, but also good luck reading the meniscus.

92·1 month agoYou’re right in terms of grading a student’s homework or whatever.
In research/publication/career these assumptions must be stated unless given.
But I was responding to:
The physicist’s answer would be correct anywhere, no matter the temperature or density of the fluid.
Which includes non-standard conditions.

162·1 month agoAssuming the time between submersion and observation is greater than zero, increasing temperatures above boiling would give increasing error.
Conversely the physicist may get other error at/near freezing.
And yet another option is the fluid being above the Ball’s melting and/or boiling point, assuming changes in density with phase change.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It must suck for legitimate high quality Chinese artisans to be associated with the "made in China" stigma.English
121·1 month agoHaving experience with small parts in both China and US, the Chinese were more consistent.
The main difference is communication. Chinese machinists will go straight to standard, but they always hit the callouts on my parts. They demonstrated my errors. Once i improved and communicated better i never had a problem with them.
US machinists can ‘fill in the blanks’ and compensate for bad/incomplete communication. That led to my poor habits. But going back to them for some parts that required US manufacture I’ve had them miss direct callouts and require remanufacture or touch ups.
Time and money. I’d rather pay less and spend 2 more hours checking and rechecking rather than days or weeks and $$$ on reman.
Countercounterpoint: Coppola was the problem 😜

I think it’s a case of correlation as opposed to causation but yes, absolutely.
