  • because sometimes i need a vm (home assisstant has more features thsn home assisstant container), sometimes a container (i mostly use lxc).

its not really an extra lauer because proxmox is an os.you use nixos i use proxmox. everything is out of the box. proxmox has comminntiu scripts to run everything and set them up. there is an i stall script for about everything https://community-scripts.org/

sure podman has similar setup but i also need vms and they are all mamaged in one place

EDIT: you can read the script, its text

yes, fedora gets kernel updates very close to their release. debian waits a bit.

so arch is bleeding edge (rolling release) which is so new, it can cause instability.

fedora waits a minute to make sure the release doesnt blow anything up

debian waits fir it tk be out in the field before it updates.

fedora has always been my goldilocks os

    • homelab and self hosting arent always “exactly” the sane thing. lab implies testing and experimentation. its purpose is to learn. but i think you are really asking about self hosing so…

first, ypu seemed to focus on media streaming in your post. to adress tgat one point, i have an entire family watching on phones and tvs (mostly tvs). i have jellyseer setup so they can even request.

BUT… that’s only one part. i have a minipc running opnsense. i have another on running proxmox. on that proxmox,

    • jellyfin, with radarr, sonarr, jellyseer, and gluetun
    • home assisstant os
    • unifi os to manage my network.
    • soon i sm adding unifi cameras with protect so i can get off blink.
    • an app called glanceapp which is a feed dashboard (not the monitor app glance) https://github.com/glanceapp/glance
    • next cloud to replace m365 or google
    • netbird to vpn in
    • pteradactyl to host game servers

i also have a ugreen box running truenas

today on this community, i learned about searxng , which i will setup very soon
