Oh good, this immediately brought this earworm back after years of not thinking of it

Technology@lemmy.world•TP-Link opens global preorders for its first Wi-Fi 8 router, but ban keeps it out of US market — US left off launch list as FCC freeze refuses to thawEnglish
2·6 days agoThat is great we’re finally getting something other than promised speeds. My point stands though on not even getting proper Wi-Fi 7, so getting proper Wi-Fi 8 is also very unlikely. I do hope they prove me wrong on that, but I think I have reason enough to feel skeptical.

3·7 days agoOh I’m not even arguing that the typical consumer with the means to buy them aren’t thinking “mo’ numba, mo’ betta”, just that we haven’t actually gotten into effective use of what we have available in the current Wi-Fi 7 spec. I mean the current theoretical speed of home applications is 4gbps with 46gbps as a max ceiling speed of we develop it more. So really, why Wi-Fi 8 yet, other than mindlessly buying a bigger number?

51·7 days agoOh I completely agree, but in legal terms it actually works. Ridiculously stupid loophole.

411·8 days agoWe don’t even have proper consumer Wi-Fi 7 routers, why the hell do we need Wi-Fi 8? Wi-Fi 7 is supposed to support simultaneous multi-band connections per device and not a single consumer one does this. The most expensive ones out there will do this weird thing where it’ll communicate in a rapid alternating signal, but that’s still not proper. Even if they support 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz, and include multiple radio chips, they are giving us the shittiest Wi-Fi 7 experience.
And that’s not even to talk about how “Wi-Fi 7” is the actual standard and some makes are skirting this by calling what they do “WiFi 7” simply so they can avoid false advertisement.
If this was c/til I would absolutely agree, but this is c/memes, so maybe slow your role.
That’s a pretty clever way of doing it!

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Self-Deprecating Humor - CatTriggerEnglish
24·12 days agoLol I actually learned a long time ago that self deprecating humor was the easiest way to manipulate difficult people into being friendly to get a job done.
I had a guy once tell me that when I answered my boss’ phone that I had wasted 37 sec of the guy’s time by not just letting it go to voicemail. From that point on I never answered the phone if it came from him unless it was directly to me, and when I needed to talk to him I would immediately say something like “well my dumbass screwed up, do you have a moment to help me out?”.
The best part? When that guy was in the process of retiring, it was me who he chose as his replacement (which I accepted and have been there for 4 years now). I still like the guy despite how much of an absolute dick head he was at times, but he never realized how much I had to manipulate him to make him amenable.
Yep, these email address validation tools are the bane of my existence. I use a non-typical TLD and it sometimes gets flagged as invalid because it’s not .com, .net, or .org.
Debbie is gonna be upset.

Biting you would require I disobey my pacifist stance.
The worst part is that it does have ears.
