I do not accept “infinite scroll” as shorthand for all that bullshit. I don’t like infinite scroll much myself, for other reasons, but this is the Fediverse. There are plenty of people around here looking at pages containing nothing but things in chronological order posted by people they chose to follow, and choosing to load more by scrolling down.

I’d appreciate it if everyone could just stop burning fossil fuels, please. Thank you for your cooperation.

How the scrollbar works says nothing about what’s on the page. You could make similar claims about web pages in general — you never really know if you’ll get what you were looking for. If anything, having to click “next” to try again would make it more like a loot box. But still not much like a loot box, usually.

1·3 days agoNot at present, but I have spent time living in the stereotypical suburbs where nobody walks anywhere.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Sad thing is that some people would indeed need to have the belief in hell instilled in them to keep them from being horrible
1·17 days agoIf we suppose that belief in Hell does some good for some people, what about belief in the Easter Bunny for an alternative? We could train everyone to know that the Easter Bunny exists in Heaven, takes a deep personal interest in every one of our lives, is always watching, and wants us to be good? Those who displease the Bunny will have bad luck until they repent. It might just work, if we’ve ruled out humanistic approaches to morality for some unstated reason.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Ikea made a Skyrim mod starring Matt Berry as a sentient shelf named Kallax Storageborn
24·26 days agoIt’s not a terrible choice as an additional way to distribute a mod for people who are into that sort of thing, I guess. Making it the only way means I’m definitely never seeing it.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Ikea made a Skyrim mod starring Matt Berry as a sentient shelf named Kallax Storageborn
69·26 days agoIntriguing, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to download it except through Bethesda’s “creation club” so as a Skyrim mod it’s a bit of a failure. Pretty good as a marketing stunt, though.

14·29 days agoThe idea that B.C. might somehow “be the 51st state” is not a concept worthy of being dignified by denying it on an official sign at the border.

Apparently there is such a thing as a “Nexus Collection Downloader” for Mod Organizer 2, although I’ve never tried it. MO2 generally works fine though.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If you showed me a lineup of 10 guys and asked me which one ran a worm farm I feel like I would get it right 100% of the time.
0·4 months agoYou can probably get to 99.9% accuracy by just saying “none of those guys run a worm farm” every time.
Have you tried it though? I find that it’s not lootbox-like in any way, although to some extent I suppose it depends on who you follow.
