Technology@lemmy.world•Singapore government launches dating app with Gale-Shapley stable matching algorithmEnglish
8·9 days agoThe stable matching problem has also been called the stable marriage problem, using a metaphor of marriage between men and women, and many sources describe the Gale–Shapley algorithm in terms of marriage proposals. However, this metaphor has been criticized as both sexist and unrealistic: the steps of the algorithm do not accurately reflect typical or even stereotypical human behavior.

Technology@lemmy.world•Apple's A20 Pro shatters Geekbench 7 single-core record — 2nm chip beats desktop Intel Core i9 and AMD Ryzen 9 by up to 32%English
102·12 days agoThe phone has been out for 10 days and this article is from 6 days before it was released.
Why are we looking at an “early benchmark” from before release instead of an actual real benchmark of the device. I don’t get why Geekbench doesn’t have results for iPhone 18, or why this “early benchmark” calls it “iPhone19,2.”
If true, the single core performance of this chip is almost identical to the single-core performance of the new M6 chip.
Something doesn’t seem right, but I don’t know a lot about Geekbench or iOS benchmarks to know if this seems legit or not.
Edit: apparently they haven’t shipped yet?

Technology@lemmy.world•Users find a default, mandatory Windows feature freezes your PC when you use internetEnglish
28·13 days agoIf you are wondering what exactly is causing the freezes and hangs, the culprit is the “Secure-Boot-Update scheduled task”. As the name suggests, this runs a scheduled Secure Boot update whenever you are online or connected to the internet. That is why many affected users initially thought the issue was related to the internet as they noticed the bug won’t show up when they were offline.
