That’s actually the origin of the “average person eats 8 spiders per year” myth. Started for the reason of showing how fast false info spreads.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Right-Wingers Are Mad Anti-Welfare Ad Isn't Racist EnoughEnglish
1·10 days agoThat’s my point though, those numbers are meaningless. What if I gave you these numbers:
White not on food stamps: 122.6 million
Black not on food stamps: 33.2 million
There are zero valid conclusions to be drawn.
Analyzing the actual numbers, it seems a random black person is 3x more likely to be on food stamps than a random white person in the US.
(0.25/0.13) / (0.38/0.59) = 2.99

81·10 days agoWhen looking at stats, you shouldn’t look at absolute numbers, you need to look at distribution too. According to google US is approximately 59% white, and 13% black, and food stamp numbers are 38% white and 25% black. So there does seem to be truth to if you are black you are more likely to be on food stamps.
Systemic racism might play a factor here.

627·14 days agoCan you just read the document in full? It’s not that long. I don’t want to quote the whole thing.
It doesn’t record to device memory, it’s a continuously overwritten stream of data into the Secure Enclave.
This this absolutely nothing like what an off the shelf recording app would do, and it would be impossible for an app to access any part of this pipeline.
Yes technically there is a transcription step in this pipeline, as you referenced. But again, this is a continuously overwritten buffer inside of a black box where the output is a high level summary.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•While everyone is trying to build a profitable business using AI, why can't AI companies make a profitable businesses using their own AI?
81·15 days agoI don’t agree it’s a separate issue. Sure you can add in more guardrails, and spend more time making the best prompt. But no matter what you do, at some point it WILL do something you either didn’t ask for, or explicitly told it not to do.

Technology@lemmy.world•Raspberry Pi is intentionally blocking RAM capacity upgradesEnglish
11·16 days agoYeah I assumed that’s what you meant. That machine still uses an SoC with embedded ram. It’s not possible to upgrade it.
It’s more repairable than previous designs, which is great, but that’s different than being upgradable.
I completely agree.
That’s why I disagree with your initial suggestion that someone who “doesn’t do politics” probably “doesn’t have the mental aptitude for it”.
To be fair it reads like you heavily correlate being political, to intellectual.
By that logic more political = more intelligent.
I understand you didn’t mean it that way, but it’s not hard to see why someone would assume that.

11·17 days agoHow does the new MacBook prove that? The way their processors are made it’s impossible to upgrade RAM after the fact.

I’m not against sports betting/casino gambling, but I really wish there would be some regulation.
The algorithm should detect problem gamblers and ban them, or have forced cooldowns, not encourage them to spend more.
