Buying used is per se not a bad idea, but the high RAM prices also mean more scammers, as it is now very profitable to scam people with fake RAM. And people need tech, so not a really an option to stop buying completely.

And I doubt prices would go down if consumers would stop buying or buying less RAM. The prices are high because the tech corporations are willing to buy RAM at basically any cost. Consumers are just a drop in the ocean at this point.

A population can shrink and the housing market can still suck, because it depends where the population loss happens. I can imagine that we are seeing a centralization to the big metropolitan areas, so the rural areas are dying out, but the metropolitan areas keep growing because people from rural areas keep moving to the big cities cos in rural areas ever fewer jobs are to be found. And I am pretty sure we this in a lot of countries, not just Japan.

That one looks pretty cool. I already know some basic Japanese, so I am not a total beginner. Will this game still be worth it for me? As in, what is the most advanced level this game gets to regarding Japanese?

Well, we haven’t reached the peak yet, tho. Afaik global population is going to peak at around 10 billion people somewhere in the 60s. We will see how much land climate change will render unusable for farming until then as well. So a food shortage is still not completely off the table, I think. Well, at least if we continue to use most of the crops to feed livestock, and not us humans directly.

And if not food, but access to enough fresh water willl probably be a huge issue in the future.
