  • Horne and her daughter were arrested in Dornoch in Sutherland and imprisoned on the accusations of her neighbours. Horne was showing signs of senility, and her daughter had a deformity of her hands and feet. The neighbours accused Horne of having used her daughter as a pony to ride to the Devil, where she had her shod by him. The trial was conducted very quickly; the sheriff, Captain David Ross, had judged both guilty and sentenced them to be burned at the stake. The daughter managed to escape, but Janet was stripped, smeared with tar, paraded through the town on a barrel and burned alive.[2] Nine years after her death the witchcraft acts were repealed in Scotland.

Apart from being burned alive that’s just a blackening! A wedding tradition still done to this day.

  • Aye and no. Don’t get me wrong, golf courses are as you say fertiliser polluted and lacking in biodiversity. But the rough, surrounding the whole course, and the woods they’re often placed in certainly resemble nature. There’s still birds, foxes, squirrels, etc, going about.

Certainly in Scotland at least, which is my only personal experience of courses. And being the home of golf I don’t think it’s disingenuous for me to use that as a basis for the claim.

I have seen videos and pictures of courses in places like Florida though and if a Scottish course is a tragedy of nature, a Florida course is an abomination.

  • And if you’re in the subset of people who struggle to register thirst, either through perceiving it as hunger or just not registering it at all; use the pee test.

If your last pee was yellow, drink some water. If clear or nearly clear, you’re fine.

If brown, drink lots of water and pray to Dionysus to become hydrated before the hangover kicks in.
