  • British sci-fi is more likely one of these:

    • Dysfunctional but mysterious magical traveler and his witless sidekicks stumble through space and time having campy adventures.
    • Dysfunctional band of renegades rush through space having campy adventures fighting a heartless evil empire with witty retorts.
    • Dysfunctional group of misfits stumble through space skewering each other with witty retorts and having campy adventures while trying to find their way home.

    There’s definitely a pattern there.

  • “It’s upsetting to know that, with even all the resources that we have out there, that somebody would just do this,” Benavides said.

It’s upsetting that people can be so judgemental of a random 18 year old girl who they know nothing about. Was she suffering post-pardum depression? Did she have some other mental health challenges? What was the situation with the father? Or with her own family? Did her family even know she’d had the kid? Did this girl have somewhere to live?

There are a lot of unknowns here.

Yes, what this young, new mother did was not the best; but it also wasn’t the worst. And yes, there are resources available. But she’s basically just a kid herself who was probably in distress. And this is in a state that has too many law-makers who are working to undo the hard work of people who are genuinely trying to help people like this girl.

Instead of casting judgement or punishing her, maybe these people should show her more patience and mercy.

  • You are correct. It’s like expecting car salesmen to be able to understand how to do brain surgery.

Most politicians are failed lawyers. And if they are too incompetent or corrupt to be representing people or entities in court, they sure are hell shouldn’t be making calls about anything in society or in the political realm. And that obviously includes technology.

Remember when late Alaska Senator Ted Stevens described (with great confidence) that the Internet “is like a series of tubes”? Classic example of their wider incompetence right there.
