I like to think of personality tests like Meyers Briggs as pseudoscientific nonsense like astrology

Games@lemmy.world•What games are you actually enjoying right now?English
5·4 days agoBeen enjoying Going Medieval for single player, it’s the perfect little castle builder fantasy, though building an actual castle takes a very long time when you’re still learning the game. But! That incentivises starting out small, feels like you get to see actual historical development rather than just arriving at the big final castle.
Multiplayer it’s Big Walk, what an absolute delight! Loving that the intro is so gentle, but there’s clearly a lot of depth.

Games@lemmy.world•For Warhorse's 15th birthday, we chatted with its co-founder about the demand for 'grown-up' RPGs, AI, why games are too cheap, and his role in the collapse of communismEnglish
11·12 days agoApparently there are lots of studies and calculations that indeed suggest games are overall way too cheap for the industry to be sustainable
That’s really interesting. I guess it’s one of the few really competitive markets for digital goods in the world.
Do you have a link to one of these studies?

2·18 days agoAn old friend of my parents is very much like an aunt to me.
A few of my friends I’ve known for decades and who have truly proven loyal and full of unconditional love I would consider as close as my brothers.

Technology@lemmy.world•World's first GPS-free quantum navigation trial succeeds at seaEnglish
2·1 month agoThis is a rather common misconception about sensitivity, it is only true under the constraint where you are unable to increase the amplitude of your measurement.
Aren’t there plenty of situations where you can’t increase the amplitude of your measurement? Isn’t that why we use SQUIDS for high sensitivity magnetic measurements for example?
Quadrature squeezing is great, but I don’t think it’s the only way (or main way?) quantum sensors compete with classical sensors.

Technology@lemmy.world•World's first GPS-free quantum navigation trial succeeds at seaEnglish
7·1 month agoYou don’t. Any appropriately sensitive/accurate accelerometer or magnetometer is sufficient to do this.
There are limits to sensitivity and accuracy that can only be overcome by quantum sensing though. So yes, you’re right, but that’s actually the point of the quantum part.

114·1 month agoTo be fair, if you ask a doctor there is not much reason for drinking water beyond when you’re thirsty.
I think it’s a beautiful and surreal statement on how wonderful it can be to follow your dreams and become even what people tell you is impossible.
I think the guy in the boat is his father from the previous panel

But being a Pisces doesn’t mean anything, does it? It could both mean being someone who is afraid of risks and someone who is bold and takes chances.
How is it easier?
