This isn’t a problem on Lemmy. You can see the exact up and downvote counts.

I appreciate this quite a bit, as a comment that has 200 up votes, 200 down votes is a much more interesting comment than one with 1 up, 1 down. The former is a hotly debated comment, and the latter just means the conversation partner downvoted their other half. These are both ‘zero votes’.

I’m not sure about the hood height part, but CAFE (US fuel economy standards) loosen the MPG requirements as vehicles get larger. The curve is poorly made and it is simply easier to increase the size of the vehicle and hit the looser fuel economy requirements. The regulation with the goal to increase fuel economy…encourages larger vehicles with worse fuel economy.

  • There are two standards as it allows one to make a crossover cable. (Do B on one side and A on the other)

I also find crossover cables completely useless and refuse to own one less it gets mixed into the pile. Everyone has a router/switch, which negates the need completely.

  • I don’t believe a functioning FBI wouldn’t be able to make exceptions for agents that would be qualified if not for conditions far outside their control as children.

The entire point of the article is that there was exactly that limitation and the rules are now coming into line with your prior expectation of how the rules should work.

    From the article:

multiple individuals have been disqualified from applying for the agency because they were victims of human-trafficking-related bestiality.

the FBI has had a number of applicants in previous years who suffered sexual abuse in their past, causing questions about prostitution, bestiality, or other similar issues to affect their background check process through zero fault of their own. Previously, those applicants would be barred from consideration. Now they can be considered.

“Applicants who have engaged in bestiality means they were victims of bestiality because they were forced to do so,” replied Patel. “At this FBI we are not going to criminalize and prevent victims from serving.”

  • The article repeatedly states this is about sexual victims. It doesn’t use the word ‘felon’ a single time. Not only that, it even points out that those convicted of such crimes are still not eligible for employment.

new FBI hiring standards are aimed at protecting “victims of bestiality.”

“Applicants who have engaged in bestiality means they were victims of bestiality because they were forced to do so,” replied Patel. “At this FBI we are not going to criminalize and prevent victims from serving.”

It is false to suggest criminal behavior like this is no longer disqualifying at the FBI—any applicant who has engaged in criminal sexual acts like those referenced would of course not be eligible for employment, and it is ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
