At the same time, go watch Heavy Metal. The soundtrack alone is well worth it.

25·16 days agoAmerican car manufacturers are terrified of having to compete with Chinese EVs, so they’re not even going to make them at all.

41·16 days agoI’d imagine the plan here is a plea deal. DA gets to have their name in the headlines, woman still goes to jail, dumb voters think it’s justice for “immorality”, wins all around.

14·17 days agoIs DA/prosecutor an elected office there? Pressing this case could look really good to the “traditional family” people - there’s a lot of them who might not say it out loud, but hate adoption as a concept.

13·17 days agoThe crime would arguably work as child endangerment, but even then, it’s pretty thin. This girl clearly didn’t have enough of a support structure to feel safe putting the kid up for adoption, and since TX is busy trying to force everything that even looks like support for young mothers to leave, expect to see a lot more of this.

1·24 days agoRorschach is basically the Punisher - it’s only luck that he likes to kill and torture “bad people”, and he shows himself that he’s pretty flexible on the definition of “bad”.
Somewhat, yes - reliable public transit was also still incredibly common into WWII (and beyond in some major metros). Even if your job was downtown and you were living outside the core, you could reliably expect bus or train service within a block or two of your house, and a reliable enough network with enough stops to let you walk to your office or whatever with fair ease.

4·1 month agoAh, but the trick is that A) Trump doesn’t care and B) the treaty says nothing about selling the moon off to corporate entities. I could definitely see this admin selling mining rights, that’s why Isaacman wants a moon base as opposed to an orbital station (which was the initial plan, as a launching point for future inner and outer system exploration).

1·1 month agoJD Vance had this too. You can’t even get up onto the street where his house is when he’s home now, because he’s so scared of protestors in front of his house that he’s had the Secret Service lock the entire street down just to feel safe.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Park benches don't "open" until 10amEnglish
7·1 month agoThat’s the hope. It’s a bad look to just have the cops round up and shoot homeless people - much easier to just have them die on the street or whatever so we can claim they’re all junkies and drunks and weirdos. Turns out corpses can’t tell their side of the story.
I bought some on clearance out of morbid curiosity as well. Had two bites between my roommate and I and we threw the rest of the pot out.
Aren’t they the guys that did Horchata?
If you want an entry point, I really enjoyed Like A Dragon. Lets you test out the vibe without needing a lot of background on the actual story of Yakuza.

20·1 month agoI love how he got minorly blocked from literally chiseling his name into the Kennedy Center, so now he’s talking about demoing the whole thing. True abuser mentality - if I can’t have it, nobody can have it.
Don’t just focus on the books, as impactful as that is worldwide. Dollywood is the largest employer in the Pigeon Forge area now. She founded a bald eagle sanctuary in the 90s. Tons of scholarships in Sevier County to help address a dropout rate that was, at the height of her popularity in the 90s, over 30%. Coronavirus research donations and vaccine awareness. AIDS research funding (through a charity album). She helped fund a hospital, helped with wildfire and hurricane relief, so much more.
You might be right to go “well some of those were probably tax writeoffs”, but she clearly took the words and idea of the early country stars she knew like Johnny Cash and decided “all this money and power is worthless unless I help people with it.”

Leave Trubbish alone, he’s one of my favorites.
