Look at the code and commit history and/or talk to the developer.
If the developer only commits in giant blocks of 1-2 days and mostly in a few hours and changes thousands of lines of code in that time, the chances of it not being vibe coded and actually being checked are extremely slim, outside of a complete project refactor. It used to be that LLMs would just do massive single commits, but now they do a thousand tiny commits on the same day using a ton of barely human-readable jargon (for less experienced devs) in the git commits.
If the project was started past 2025 and the initial commit(s) on the first day were massive, that also points (less strongly) towards vibe coding.
If the Dev can’t explain what his code does without having an LLM write the response (this is getting to be harder to spot because LLMs are good at language patterns), that also generally also means that it was vibe coded.
If the dev’s commit history only includes documentation, issues, or very very small things until 2025-2026 and combined with one of the above, it is usually vibe coded.
If the dev has been writing issues or commits jn AI tool repos, that is another indicator.
The vibe coding identifying sites online are complete garbage with mostly false positives. For example, if I run it on my old github repos from before LLM coding existed, it says that it is very likely vibe coded because I comment a ton because my memory isn’t great and I am an electronics guy with very bad coding git management so my git commit history is like one or two commits per day when I am working on something, but I try to bullet list all of my changes in a readable way for people not familiar with the code (like myself in 1 year lol)

I think the comment about AI is not in good faith.
It isn’t users saying every “AI assisted” project is vibe coded slop.
It is just as often or more that developers and “developers” lying about AI assistance when they are just vibe coding or “AI assisting” and barely checking over the code. There are tons if those on Fdroid android apps too.
The projects that are actually only AI assisted don’t get that many complaints on most communities I see. It is the slop that people push as legitimate that gets people riled up.

Material files can mount remote storage network shares (SFTP and the like) while others like fossify needs an intermediary app (SMFA or something)

Well the ICC isn’t amazing either. Historically it has been used as a tool to “prosecute” African individuals in western courts and has prosecuted literally 0 western war criminals, completely ignoring European crimes abroad. Whether imperialistic/colonialistic or just trying to establish itself as legitimate by prosecuting easy targets, African countries (who were initially all for the ICC because of their history with instability and war and were some of the main case referers early on) are withdrawing because of how “unbalanced” the justice is.
The ICC has never once prosecuted a european national, EVER, for war crimes.
A lot of regimes seeking to get rid of western mega-corporation exploitation are resorting to getting rid of as much western influence as possible, maybe because the frequency of European, american, and corporate sponsored coups.
But the US never recognized the ICC because they commit so many thousands of war crimes.

Why not just use the whisper plugin for Bazarr?

Sadly, security on the Jolla is laughable. Comparable to a standard Linux installation years ago, from what I have heard…
It is so dumb that pretty much we only have to make these giant compromises because of greed.

Also the controlling party in Italy is practically neo-fascist and Austria is also sliding there again with their Nazi party like AfD in Germany and VB in Belgium getting a huge portion of votes.
I don’t see how it is that much better than a US non- profit.
I think the core thing is that you have to know of a bunch of different CA options and switch when necessary or on a compromised CA.

What it means though is that nobody in the community can sell upgrades to the printer, sell spare parts, or, and by far most importantly, nobody can develop a fully open source printhead for this printer to sell.
Right now they are using a proprietary print head from a normal printer (understandably because it is by far the most complex engineering piece and is very complicated). However, an external team that wants to make an open hardware project taking on that engineering challenge with more expertise than this team will not be able to be compensated for their work if they make it specifically for this open source printer. According to my understanding of the license.

Well this is something that every cheap WiFi chip can do in the last decade. Share WiFi through a hotspot. Hell, ESPHome does it by default just for ease of use and fallback debugging. Here is a very old project , dirt cheap chip that does it
They already broadcast hidden SSIDs for direct connection for features like screen mirroring, etc… Researchers have exploited this exact thing for attack vector testing (though they weren’t testing the TV itself data ex filtration)
There is no way, with all of the privacy intrusions + their blatant disregard for network security (See GN video) and LG’s own advertiser marketing claims, that they don’t do that.
It isn’t like “they are tracking you in your own house from WiFi through your walls” (which now ALSO has been proven correct and is now an advertised “feature” for american ISPs) yet here we are. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/05/260522023127.htm, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiFi_Sensing, https://www.theverge.com/news/981381/comcast-xfinity-shield-wifi-motion-sensing
Automatic content recognition is also done by every manufacturer and also a “very paranoid” thing 5 years ago.
Not to mention literally this whole wiretap scandal that OP report is from.
From the original report itself, they also constantly scan all devices on the network, Bluetooth, and in the free bands their radios can pick up and log them so they know every device that has passed in their range, characteristics, and WiFi + Bluetooth geolocating is quite a standard practice for years for “increasing location accuracy”
LG themselves bought a company that links your real identification from retailers to a unique product number so LG will be able to actually be certain that a specific person is associated with the spied data instead of a guess based on accounts. (Also in GN investigation video 1)
From their own financial reports as highlighted in the original investigation, LG’s profits from TV-based selling to advertisers and data brokers is literally more than their profits from selling the TVs themselves.
So we have established that it is dead simple, cheap, functionality already built into other features and profitable. The only other motive left would be ethics, but from the research by GN (reported on in the OP), they simply spy on you anyway, and when caught because that is illegal, they got a slap on the wrist (see US Texas lawsuit settlement), and changed their terms of service to say “you give your and everyone in your household’s express consent to comply to your local wiretapping laws” (using exactly the language “wiretapping”. So we can also establish that they have absolutely no ethics around data ex filtration, and no regard for legality and willingness to pay the small fines.
What would be the motive for them to look at this feature and say “nah, we aren’t going to do that extremely easy thing”? Laziness would be the only one that I could see, in which case, it will appear in future models at some point.
It is not as though they have to stream video through it, raw text data is incredibly small. A whole 300 page e-book can be around 1MB. It is uploaded in under 1 second and it is encrypted, so it blends in with other traffic.

They literally run speech to text, store it and exfiltrate it to their servers…
Even if you deny internet access, it can hop to other smart devices of the same brand using hidden SSIDs and exfiltratr data that way, or if the TV gets sold and connected to a network, all of the stored conversations will get sent to their servers. This was from the original GN investigation and associated security researchers
There isn’t really something one can network-admin a way out of it seems, sadly…

If I don’t get executive say in what happens at the company, I am not included in liability. I am not allowed to sit on the damn board with my pension fund.
Executives and controlling board members get held personally liable. It really is as simple as that. If you are in the meetings, and you get a vote, you are liable. There is absolutely no slippery slope fallacy here.
Any bullshit “uhm actually you technically are a shareholder” is just trying to ward off people having to take responsibility for their decisions. (also, in many pension schemas you aren’t actually the shareholders, the investment fund technically is and you are just given the license to decide how they invest those funds and get a portion of the payout, but it is different than manually retail investing for example)

Also, looking towards the future or for people that can find one at a decent price:
Not a raspberry pi but an Orange Pi Plus or Pro. They have a rockchip that has AV1 decoding (along with standard others) which is probably going to be the future (it is for corpo streaming already).
Put plasma big screen on it and get a Bluetooth wechip remote or something

There is no way this isn’t just an AI bot

I guess there is no rule about having the AI writing the AI disclosure because I guess 4 sentences has to be extended into 8 paragraphs.
But what if the AI disclosure lies? 😂 for example, PRs are reviewed by Claude code and merged. That doesn’t sound like “every commit is reviewed by the maintainer”
Not in Belgium. People would have no idea what is going on if you do that here. They would probably think you are about to have to slam on your brakes (hazards are put on when you have to abruptly slow down)

This is also why open source wearables can’t have the best PPG heart rate/SPO2 tracking.
There are only about 4 PPG analog front ends still in production that don’t require an NDA and the Max86141 is the only one worth anything it seems.
You can’t do analog front ends with any small FPGAs that I know of and it is simply to large to do it (well, at least) on a small wearable with discrete components.

This seems like the perfect scam for Lemmy for setting up a fresh IP for launching a cyber attack/scam with a real residential IP. Helping a community member while circumventing shitty corporations. (Not saying OP is, just that it would be a decent scam)
This requires either an insane amount of trust in a random person or gullibility. Plugging a random mailed device into your network, even behind a VLAN.
I definitely would never do this if I didn’t have absolute full and complete access to every part of the pi’s software, or preferably set it up myself (optionally in collaboration with the requester) and the requester only had read-only access to it.
It was a joke, chill.
But let’s be in good faith about this, vibe coders will overwhelmingly use cloud based corporate frontier models…
And self hosting LLMs in general singularly and only solves one part of the resource objection (prompts running on green energy) and that is all and only if the model is run on green energy. It doesn’t solve most of the moral objections, IP objections, economic objections, resource objections, or brain damage objections.
That being said, one’s own, local, never-to-release app or internal tooling is probably one of the better uses for LLMs like documentation discovery, informal document translation and tiny TTS and STT models (the best usecase in my own opinion)
