Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Anythings a UFO if you're dumb enough.English
6·3 days agoNot anything. No one could confuse a lake or the Whitehouse or a stick of spaghetti as a UFO. It needs to be flying first and foremost.
I would wager they were either surplus mice or part of control groups.
That’s specifically for the purpose of studying the body and brain as part of the experiment though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you still do the "L" thing with your hands to check left and right?English
9·7 days agoNo. I’m not sure I ever did. I’ve never thought about it, but don’t most people (adults) generally just remember and/or know intuitively? I don’t think it’s something I need to think about. Just something my brain knows.

10·8 days agoI do a lot of DIY and have all manner of screws in my shed gathered across the years. These ones are a rarity.
Also, I hate flatheads.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What item would help you be more productive right now if you had it?English
5·11 days agoA random one, I’m sure, but a Skinner moth trap. It would encourage me to get up earlier every day to see what moths I caught overnight, and as a result I’d get more done. I was going to buy this month, but my water main gas just burst, so there goes the moth trap money.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How do avid weed users get a hit whilst traveling if it's illegal in certain countries?English
58·12 days agoWe don’t. It’s not like heroin. I don’t need it and can manage fine without it
Never have I been more disappointed in an album purchased off the back of one song.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•They say beauty is only skin deep, because below that we're just a mess of sinew, bone and slippery sloopy organsEnglish
6·13 days agoI think the original adage was beauty is only skin deep but ugliness goes to the bone.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Can our entertainment ever really allow for escapism, when it is created within and for the society we wish to escape from?English
7·17 days agoEscapism is just distracting yourself from life and worries, so yes, it can. I can read a book or listen to a song and become untethered from this world and part of a new one that only exists for me.
I refuse to believe people would just make shit up.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is Something you are Proud to have Made?English
13·17 days agoI self published two books and am very proud of them. Currently working on my third. The ideas are like little babies you craft into fully formed things, and it’s a journey to get there - like a jigsaw and the total number of pieces and the shape keep changing as you progress. I love the experience of piecing ideas into a whole, dropping clues and red herrings, building tension, working towards revelations.
Also this, in memory of Murphy:
