and what would that change in regards of that law? It would still need a way to implement age verification and I really don’t see a way for an open, federated, distributed system like the fediverse to implement it. It is in its core principles incompatible with age verification. I can’t see a way for the fediverse to survive this law, not in the EU at least.

Whenever we tried something else in the last 150 years it created a living hell for nearly everyone who was lucky enough to survive. And what we had before that was not paradise either, far away from it.

People where mostly growing food for themselves and their family, not for each other. This changed when the first basic forms of capitalism where invented, things like markets, guilds, and skyrocketed with industrialization.

No other system that we tried ever worked as good and produced so much peace and prosperity like capitalism. Is it perfect? Fuck no! Nothing that involves humans could ever be. But it is the best we have from a bunch of broken and fucked up systems.

The world, the western/first world at least, would collaps and Fall Info complete Chaos and dispair should electronic payment ever gets unusable. Everything depends on it, without it we would fall back into small, localised markets and nearly nothing would be prepared for that. Food production would collapse, machines could not be repaired because no repair parts could be created or delivered, the power grid would break and so much more. It would be apocalyptic, and so many people would die or suffer

Do you like a dark dystopian future? Because a mindset like this is how you get a dark dystopian future.

Who talks about average people? The whole trust and cert system is only needed to guard against criminal actors or other people/organization’s with ill intend. And such people are not average at all.

Embeding identity is problematic too, identity theft and stolen certificates are not that uncommon. This would create a whole new class of attacks.

I could do it in a large van, minibus or mobile home. There is a lot of space in those and having themself standing around is not so strange in most places. Or i could go underground, put my setup into the canalisation. Or i could just use a house/apartment/business unit close by. Oh and high quality displays can be quite small nowadays, so I could build a fake telescope lense looking device that I put over the lense of the camera, that looks not that strange in public too.

Okay, I will use such a camera then to film/photographs a huge monitor showing a manipulated/ai generated video/image then, near the location of the real event. The camera will then produce a signed and trusted video with fake information.

What is your next step then? Only verified and trusted people are allowed to use cameras?
