French equivalent of the CLAC was funded by the CIA in an attempt to balance European union power away from communist trade unions (it used to be an open secret, the documents are public now, and an ex-CIA guy just flat out confirmed it).
Given the CLAC was founded in the same era as ours, odds are they share the same backstory.
Hard to blame conspiracy theorists when you study labor history.
Sure, I love making them, I’ll make a lot more!
Pot calling the kettle hominem buddy, see you in the next one :)
Aye, cute performative anger right there.
The goal has never been to save the world, one person alone can’t do that. The goal is to do our best to help those who are suffering from the current state of society, while building collective momentum in order to achieve structural change.
I’ve been doing extremely well on both of those goals, thank you very much for inquiring so politely.
Your life seems sad if you’ve reached the point where all you can do is bark and bite through a screen, maybe you’d have a better outlook on life if you too tried to follow whatever your dreams and ideals are. It helps become a calmer person. I’ll keep posting my comics. If you ask nicely, I’ll send you a kiss emoji next time. Have a beautiful day!
My kink is teaching americans about the MOVE bombing. Somehow it’s more known outside the USA than inside, you’d think a country bombing its own city 40 years ago would be a bigger deal.
First time in 508 comics that I’m using the traditional cross split four panel format, I had to disobey it a little bit somehow.
Correct, you can’t take on it alone. Maybe something should be done ahead of time to prevent others houses being bulldozed. If you don’t, they’ll come for your house eventually, and you’ll look silly all on your own against the bulldozer.
Much harder to bulldoze the house of someone with a strong community, who can threaten disruptive protests and mass strikes if bulldozers get too close to things they want to keep. That’s how we do it over here.
Quit my comfy regular job six years ago to become a full time activist.
Didn’t feel like being passive in the era of rising fascism and extinction level threat climate change.
I’m probably not the person you should be asking that question to.
We even signed the big petition and did an op-ed in the WaPo, guess it’s time to take the L and move on, nothing else can be done.
I don’t mind people disliking my work, but at least dislike it for the correct reason.
I make satire that require some reading comprehension, that aims to create discourse.
Pizzacake straight up draws what she means, there’s not much left to the imagination.
(that is not criticism of her or her work fwiw, she’s cool, just pointing out the difference)
Are organizing, collective action, protests and strikes violent?
Well, I guess I tried to do everything I could.
Too bad :(
Gandhi built his movement on the back of centuries of violent anti-colonial resistance, in particular the HSRA campaigns which had proven british rule to be weak, and all the work done by Netaji before he was outed from the movement for his ties with nazi Germany (he was forgotten by history for being a bad person, but still played as big a role as Gandhi in India’s national liberation).
If Gandhi was born just 20 years earlier , he probably wouldn’t have made a difference at all. He arrived at the right time, when the empire was already crumbling from being sabotaged, and still reeling from the war. Like every other liberation movement, it was diversity of tactics that led to its success: the peaceful political force asking for change can only work if there’s a threat of ongoing violence in the background as long as their demands are not met.
Could you please not do that?
There’s a few sequels, in accordance with our billionaires’ infinite ingenuity for beautiful inventions!

(the comic is based on french studies, but equivalent american ones weren’t hard to find)
I guess so, happens often.
Though usually it’s xkcd or Bors that did it first.
From personal experience posting my content on multiple platforms, Lemmy’s userbase is by far the most fragile one regarding sexism.
Yes, even worse than Reddit, where this very comic had its comment section locked by the rcomics mods due to the hundreds of pissed off dudes crying in the comments. At least they get downvoted on Reddit. Lemmy really is dudebro land, and needs to fix that if it wants to grow further (which I would like as a Lemmy enjoyer).
I’ve said this a few times already, and it usually makes Lemmy users uncomfortable, so I’ll keep repeating it as often as necessary.
I have breathing issues due to being tear gassed too often, my left shoulder suffers from very painful tendinitis that will probably never go away due to being tossed on the ground / beat up, got an acquaintance who lost an eye to a rubber bullet, that’s the life of a regular french demonstrator.
You are severely underestimating the violence of french anti-riot policing methods. Those weapons might sound chill due to being labeled “non-lethal”, but they’re actually quite lethal (people die regularly) and violate the Geneva protocol (tear gas usage is theoretically banned on civilians).
If you believe it’s that relaxed, come demonstrate in France, see what it’s like to be charged at by 100 dudes in full body armor swinging at you trying to do maximum damage while you’re caught in a cloud of toxic gas with nowhere to run. You thought the press could cover your ass by filming the police violence, or that the government would do something about police brutality? Guess what, they target journalists too, and our govt encourages police brutality.
If you’re looking for excuses, don’t drag us into it. Protesting in France isn’t an easy affair, we genuinely put our lives on the line every time we go out there. It’s the police that decides how violent protests are, the reason you hear so much about french “riots” is because our police keeps escalating the violence. We have a peaceful nature.
Americans need to shut the fuck up about the rest of the world I swear. You’re not that special.
Rubber bullets banned in many countries, people lose eyes to them in France
Tear gas long term health effects
Casualties from the yellow vest protests
Police violence on journalists
This documentary’s trailer should tell you enough about our riot police situation
