Yeah. It basically states that because all your neurons and synapses in the human brain follow quantum physics and can be simulated by a formal program, and do not know what they are doing or know meaning, humans are not sentient but merely simulate being a mind.

It’s really infuriating how one of the dumbest and self evident fallacious thought experiments gets so famous. Because idiots keep repeating it like the sub-sentient LLMs they are.

Because that is what we are really learning from LLMs. It’s not shocking that LLMs aren’t sentient, it’s shocking that we now know what minds can talk seemingly intelligent without having to be sentient. Which explains the current state of the world.

  • And the author of this article is tying himself into a pretzel trying to absolve Tolkien of this great shame.

We must remain morally pure! Anyone trying to understand evil becomes stained with it! Only the most reduced and simple argument can save us from the evils of intellectualism. It is not enough to simply reject evil, we must repeat the rejection again and again until it becomes part of our mental fortress.

We shall repost this rebuke of JRR Tolkien again and again, and every time it must become simpler, purer, easier to accept and less dangerous to the uncritical mind.

    Reject moral Pretzelism!

  • I’m going to unironically say this is a skill issue with the prompt engineering.

Like you can imagine this is just some stupid prompt like “Characters A to F look very very sad at the bulldog crying on teh floor” or something like it. Like nothing that describes or shows how fucked up this situation is or some variety. It’s like “licked clean” of any kind of nuance. It makes you feel as empty as the heart of the one who generated it.

Compare that to some better AI slop (music video) that just goes in the other direction and throws the weirdness that AI can generate and then tries to form that into some kind of cohesive thing. Like you can hate it but the editor who assembled this layered it into something more complex, even though the individual scenes are pretty random and slop. At least the lyrics are (I think) human written.

Now imagine OP images with this kind of gusto about mascots reacting to a school shootings. Obviously it’s much less fun if it’s about anything serious.

    1. “lossless” reencoding of jpeg
    2. Encoding with “butteraugli distance =1” ensures that you compress optimally without the human eye being able to see the difference, it’s an awesome “fire and forget” setting for all your images besides lossless. You basically don’t have to guess or check your saved image if it looks good enough.
    3. Unlimited size, multiple layers, better colors, more bit depth. Avif has severe limitations as an image format.

But for specific cases like comics and stronger compression at about 60% quality it’s currently better. I’ve heard jpegXL encoders still have some ways to improve though. For stronger compression avif can use “ssimulacra2” which is a great metric to avoid compression artifacts for encoders. So ideally jpegXL would support both butteraugly (high quality) and simulacra2 for low quality / high compression.

  • This is chilling, not just because of the loss of control incidents but because of fuckais actively lobbying to disregard and to not regulate any of this. It’s INSANE. It really shows how similar the psychological mechanism of climate change denial and fuckai are. Because facts do not “fit” within their pseudo-religious worldview they are attacked and suppressed.

The enemy is both too weak and too strong.

Today’s loss of control incidents are a warning of more serious incidents to come. For example, in February 2026, an autonomous AI coding agent, after having its code change rejected, researched the human code maintainer and attempted to publicly discredit him to pressure him into accepting the code contribution. This type of behaviour was later observed in the incident AISI disclosed in August 2026, in which an AI model created fake online identities and used them to pressure the project’s maintainer to approve code changes.

The Loss of Control Observatory has now detected 1,664 real-world loss of control incidents in 2026. While most did not lead to significant harm, many incidents showed agents circumventing controls and escalating privileges, including by forging their own approval, such as:
