Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Its crazy to me that no one is saying "if rhe AI is doing all the jobs maybe we can spend more time with the family and children we supposedly love."
2·5 days agoWell even under the current framework, we just need enough people to consistently vote for left wing (i.e. not liberal and obviously not conservative) candidates, who will seek to protect workers from this situation through a variety of ways (e.g. stronger social security to eliminate the need to labour for survival, nationalisation of the companies taking the labour so the public benefits, wealth redistribution from those who have already enriched themselves on the back of others’ work)
Failing that, history gives some examples of more extreme measures that can be employed

8·5 days agoThere’s two main reasons:
If the thing that takes the labour away from the workers is owned privately, it will not benefit the workers.
If we do not drastically change how the economy works, people not being able to work to exchange their labour for income means they starve and die

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Toshiba to double HDD production capacity amid devastating shortages — 65TB, 100TB drives on the roadmapEnglish
2·6 days agoWithout going into video media, I’ve got around 2-3TB of photos (in RAW format) and my ripped/downloaded music collection is about the same size. Probably got about 5TB of device backups and a similar amount of retro games ROMs/disk images
I think between my desktop PC and server I’ve got about 70-80TB of storage (though not all of it is usable for redundancy)
I could see myself building a new NAS in a couple of years that would make use of a few of those drives if the economics work out
Hey babe, wake up, new love language just dropped

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If ghosts were real every restaurant would be haunted as fuck
20·8 days agoI feel like it’s gotta be one of the lower ranked places of people dying right?
Anyone displaying any signs of serious illness is gonna get sent straight to a hospital, surely. I don’t imagine a restaurant owner is gonna dilly dally for business, health and liability reasons.
Or is this something I’m too European to understand? Do people die in American restaurants a lot?
Like I know it’s much more likely to get food poisoning over there, but that’s not insta-killing people… Do people turn down ambulances a lot?
There’s a joke about the rat race in there somewhere

12·10 days agoI’m not sure I even register a complete thought about it when thinking about left/right. It fell into the instinct box a long time ago, I just sorta immediately and unquestionably know, if that makes sense
